For those who want a journey off the beaten track (even more so than the average safari adventure) Ruaha is the place for you! Although a lesser-known park, this is the biggest national park in East Africa! It’s a fascinating stretch of land, with Baobabs dotting the horizon and over 1600 species of plant which make the environment unlike any other. Ruaha is famous for being the most rural and untouched National Park. The Great Ruaha River, the heart, and soul of the park, is chock full of hippos and crocodiles, making for some exciting game viewing. Once home to the largest population of Elephants in Africa, it now holds over 15,000 elephants in total. This park is also home to 10% of the world’s lion population! Best time to visit: Dry season is the best time to view wildlife but for bird watching be there November-April for the best experience.
Species: Aside from the impressive number or hippos, crocodiles and elephants, the park is home to 571 species of bird as well as cheetahs, leopards, lions, wild dog, hyena, giraffe, buffalo, sable antelope and more!
